A little about me

Maria Rebelo was born in Portugal on an ancient farm. She lived in a granite house, surrounded by fields often covered with dew. As a child, she moved to Timor, an island in South East Asia. Color was everywhere, in the lush landscape, the tropical fruits, and the dresses of the indigenous people. When she became a photographer, Maria first worked in black and white; but then she felt the need to recapture the color sensations of her youth. She divides her time between Chicago, where she often photographs nature in the Botanic Garden, and Portugal, where she does mostly landscape and architectural photography.
